Okehampton 1st 2 Hatherleigh 1st 1 AFTER losing 2-0 to Beer last week Okehampton got back to winning ways with this fine battling performance. Both teams created several chances during the opening half hour, but it was Okehampton that broke the deadlock when Robert Sandercock beat his marker on the left wing, sending the ball to the back post for Adam Mortimore to set up Robbie Miller from close range on 35 minutes. Hatherleigh pressed hard up until the interval, but Argyle?s defence stood strong and denied them any clear-cut chances. Keeper Daniel Malcolm was quick off his line when he needed to be. Argyle started the second half much brighter than their opponents, and soon found themselves two goals up when a powerful shot from Robbie Miller could only be parried by the Hatherleigh keeper Neil Clift. Mathew Mortimore reacted well and pounced on the loose ball to rattle it into the net on 50 minutes. Okehampton continued to play the better football and had enough chances to have put the game out of sight. But slightly against the run of play Hatherleigh No 9 pounced on a goalmouth muddle up and pulled a goal back for the visitors on 60 minutes. Argyle looked edgy after this and took a while to settle into their passing game. Tireless performances by Mark Burdus and Mathew Mortimore saw them replaced by Steve Williams and Steve Kinsey on 70 minutes and both players soon got into the action to force some great saves out of Neil Clift in the Hatherleigh goal.
