KEEN musicians from Okehampton College went back to school last week ? in the middle of the summer holidays.

The attraction was the Wren Summer Music Club, a free, five-day course for 11 to 16-year-olds wishing to broaden their musical skills.

Alongside singing, writing songs and learning new music, participants had a go on traditional and more unusual instruments, such as melodeon and autoharp. At the end of the week, they had recorded a CD, and rounded everything off with a concert performance before parents and friends, in Okehampton?s Octagon Theatre.

Devon?s specialist community and folk arts organisation Wren, which is based in Okehampton, has more than 20 years experience in developing and leading such exciting projects, all over the county.

Wren runs a year-round creative music project for young musicians, at Okehampton College, called the Roots Band, and is looking forward to welcoming old and new members in the autumn term.

All who are interested in their children taking part in the autumn, or who wish to find out more about Wren and the Roots Band, should contact Wren, 1 St James Street, Okehampton, Devon EX20 1DW, tel: 01837 53754.
