RETURNING to his old playing ground at Yelverton Golf Club, Stuart Disney, now at Torquay, made all the field feel as if they were still on holiday, after scoring an incredible 61.
Although a restricted length course due to bad weather, he was still six shots clear of second place finisher Ian 'Golf Guru' Marshall of Staddon Heights.
Earlier Disney eagled the par 5 fifth for a steady front nine, but a run of eagle, par, birdie, eagle including holing a 90-yard pitching wedge at the 14th hole left the field in his wake.
'It's great to come back to a course where I've been attached and one where I always enjoy playing,' said Disney. 'It's not often you get three eagles in the round but they definitely smarten up your card.'
In third place was Torquay's head professional Martin Ruth, RND's Robin Goodey and John Langmead of Hele Park.
With two meetings left at Thurlestone and Churston, the race for matchplay positions at Yelverton in March is definitely hotting up.
Leading scores: Stuart Disney, Torquay, 61; Ian Marshall, Staddon Heights, 67; Martin Ruth, Torquay, 68; Robin Goodey, Royal North Devon, 68; John Langmead, Hele Park, 68; Richard Herring, Royal North Devon 69; Peter Ward, Teignmouth, 70.
