THE widow of a West Devon Royal Marine who was killed in a helicopter crash over the Kuwaiti desert has given birth to a baby daughter.

Helen Guy, whose husband Captain Philip Guy, of Crapstone, was one of the first British soldiers to be killed in the Iraq war, gave birth to the couple?s second child last week, it was reported in the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.

Captain Guy, 29, originally from Yorkshire, was one of eight Royal Marines from Plymouth-based 3 Commando who died when the US Sea Knight they were on crashed after completing a mission last month.

Captain Guy, who has a 20-month-old son called Henry, joined the Royal Marines after graduating from Salford University in 1995, and had previously served in Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Speaking at the time of his death, Mrs Guy said: ?Phil was the most perfect, loving, special husband that I could have wished for.

?I know he died a true hero. He died for his Queen and country and to make the world a safer, better place for us to live in, for his children to grow up in.?
