YELVERTON Tennis Club celebrated a successful summer in the Plymouth and District League, with a team supper for players and partners at the Jasmine Restaurant in Yelverton.
Several members attended the league award evening at the Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth. For Yelverton the highlights of the season were the promotion of the men's A team to division 1 and the ladies' A team finishing runners-up in division 1.
The men's team were presented with their league winners' award and Helen Smith and Tizzy Shobrooke were presented with a merit award for topping the division 1 ladies' averages.
The club were also proud when ladies' team captain Ann Short received a silver cup for 'services to tennis' in the area.
All the clubs within the league have an opportunity to vote for a person to receive this award — Yelverton chairman Ken Darby presented Ann with the trophy again at the team supper and she received a basket of flowers from the club in recognition of this league award.
An evening of social tennis took place last Saturday at the Ivybridge indoor courts, which Yelverton booked for the evening.
This was well supported by the club members and thanks were expressed to Dennis Jones for organising a competition, which Fiona Spreadbury and Dennis won, and to the ladies for the supper.
