LIFE SAVERS from Okehampton Swimming Pool recently celebrated achieving the most bronze medallion and rookie awards in Devon. The youngsters from the Okehampton Life Saving Club were presented with their trophies by area organiser, Peter Brewer. The Royal Life Saving Society?s scheme helps children to improve their swimming, learn water safety, practise first aid and discover how to help others. The rookie programme has four progressive levels, each marked by the award of a badge. The first stage is primarily about ensuring swimmers understand water safety and how to avoid getting into difficulties. The final stage leads on to the bronze medallion, a useful qualification for many water activities. Any eight-year-olds who are able to swim four lengths continuously and wish to become a new member should contact Tony Clark on 01837 840283. The club meets every Friday at 6.30pm for a one hour session.
