ENGLAND Hockey's national development manager Jane Nockolds (extreme left), and Devon Hockey's young umpire co-ordinator Julia Gill (extreme right) presented Okehampton Hockey Club's young umpires with their Foundation Umpiring awards.
To gain the award the 18 young umpires all attended a theory session and passed a test on the rules of hockey. They then had to put theory into practice with a short umpiring session under the expert guidance of Jane and Julia, both of whom are top class national umpires.
The club will be restarting the junior practice sessions on Saturday on the all-weather pitch at the college.
Sessions run from 10am to 11am and are for 11 to 16 year olds (school years six to 11). Both boys and girls are welcome.
