SPECIAL awards in recognition of significant contributions to Dartmoor National Park were presented at a ceremony in Bovey Tracey recently.

Bill Cann, of South Zeal, chairman of the park authority and Sue Morshead presented the DNPA Edward Morshead Awards to several individuals and organisations who have promoted, protected, enhanced or maintained the beauty, wildlife and culture of the moor.

First prize went to Mark Steer and Rosemary Garforth for the Bridford Community Garden.

Second prize was awarded to the Princetown-based High Moorland Community Action group for its outstanding community work within Dartmoor Forest parish.

Third prize was awarded to the Hastoe Housing Association for its affordable housing scheme for local people in Widecombe.

Imerys and Watts Blake Bearne Minerals were given a special award for their work in conserving landscape on the moor.

Several other commendations to deserving groups and individuals were also made.
