THE international award winning musical Chicago takes to the Plymouth Theatre Royal stage from Monday March 5 to March 17. Based on real life in the roaring 1920s, nightclub singer Roxie Hart shoots her lover. Along with cell block rival, double-murderess Velma Kelly, they fight to keep from death row with the help of smooth talking lawyer, Billy Flynn. Chicago opened at the Adelphi Theatre on November 18 1997 to rave reviews and immediately became a sell-out hit. It won the 1998 Laurence Olivier Award for 'Outstanding Musical Production' as well as the 1998 Critics Circle Drama Award for 'Best Musical'. Haley Flaherty will star as 'Roxie Hart'. She has previously played in Chicago both in the Far East and on tour in the UK. Her West End credits include Saturday Night Fever, Thoroughly Modern Millie and playing 'Sandy' in Grease at the Dominion Theatre. Dale Meeks stars as 'Amos Hart'. Best-known for playing 'Simon Meredith' in Emmerdale, Dale Meeks starred in the opening cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Beautiful Game in London. Dawn Spence who has just starred in the national tour of Anything Goes, plays 'Velma Kelly'. George Asprey, currently in Waking the Dead on television and playing a leading role in the Disney film The Greatest Game Ever Played, plays 'Billy Flynn'. Box office 01752 267222.
