A STICKLEPATH-based housebuilders has won a prestigious award for its flagship development in Newquay.
Wainhomes South West, which is Devon and Cornwall?s largest private housebuilder, and its architects, Alan Leather Associates Ltd, have been honoured in the Restormel Borough Council Design Awards.
The company previously won the overall award in the Westcountry Publications, New Homes Awards for 2002 for Hatfield Crescent, which overlooks Cornwall?s surfing centre at Fistral Beach.
Wainhomes marketing director Adrian Dyer said this latest design, conservation and environmental award reflected the high quality designs for the crescent and the efforts the company made, in conjunction with the Duchy of Cornwall and Restormel Borough Council and Cornwall County Council planners, to produce a new housing scheme of which Cornwall and local residents could be proud.
The high density development incorporates three-storey houses, two- storey villas, terraces and cottages and is built on land acquired from the Duchy of Cornwall.
Mr Leather said: ?This is the first of what we hope will be several schemes that will embody home zone principles, whereby we try to give the development back to the residents so that they feel responsible for the streets in which they live.?
The site is based on urban design principles of continuous street facades, largely uninterrupted by parking bays or garages and cars parked within internal courtyards, on streets or in bays sited in residents? gardens.
It is the first partnership between a private developer and the Duchy of Cornwall in the county.
