A WAVE of creativity has washed over East Cornwall with two authors in the area releasing new romantic novels.

Annaliese Plowright, of Gunnislake, has just released her debut book 'The One', a paranormal romance in which a woman flees to Scotland in a witness protection programme to escape her tyrannical husband.

She finds herself in love with a mysterious and intriguing man, but their relationship takes a turn when she finds out he is no mere mortal.

Annaliese, 36, started to write her novel as a way of escaping the trauma of what was happening in her life at the time — divorce, safety for her child and her family and financial hardship.

She said: 'I separated from my husband four years ago — I had been living like a single parent for a while and I'd had enough so I left. Two months later my husband was arrested with some quite serious charges and it threw my life into turmoil.

'I used writing as a coping mechanism, and went off to this fictitious place. I had thought about writing a novel for years so I set myself the target of finishing this book.

'I suppose the heroine is like myself, starting again and putting her past behind her, but that is the only parallel to my life.

'The novel started out as a picture in my mind of a young woman driving a car full of her possessions, going to a new place. It is about a new life she is forced to embark on and the intriguing and unusual man she meets.'

The novel took Annaliese about 18 months to write in the spare moments she had when her son was at nursery or after he had gone to bed.

'I am really pleased with it. I have already started the second book — I'm probably going to do a trilogy. When I finished the novel, I already had ideas of where to take the story so started the second novel about three or four months after finishing the first one. I'm really excited about it.'

A short distance away in Calstock, semi-retired lorry driver Tony Dwelly, 65, has released his second novel, a sequel to his first romance 'Julie's Meadow'.

'Tremarrow' is based around the wicked Rupert who has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his mother.

Tony wrote most of his first novel to pass the time at night when he was on the road, but since semi-retiring he has had more time to concentrate on his second book.

He said: 'Julie's Meadow has been selling quite well locally and all the feedback I've had is everybody wanted another one.

'I already had ideas for the story — I think knowing where it was going to go really helped. I didn't think I would get so involved in it as the first one, but I did.'

Tony is already writing his third novel, a romance set in the 1900s.

The One is on sale at £7.99 and available on Amazon and Createspace and will soon be available on Kindle.

Tremarrow is on sale for £8.95 and available at Book Stop in Tavistock and online through Amazon and Kindle.
