AN auction of pledges being held at Lamerton Village Hall tomorrow (Friday) has proved such a draw that the tickets have already sold out.

The auction, which sees lots from cakes to dance lessons, is in aid of Make a Difference, a local charity based at Trident House in Tavistock, that provides help and support to anyone who has had or continues to have mental health problems.

And next week will also see events to help benefit this local charity.

Grade II Listed building Whitchurch House is one of the biggest houses in the area, and it will soon be changing hands, and the current occupants are conducting a contents sale, from which a substantial donation will be made to Make a Difference.

Former psychiatric social worker Sandy Edney, co-founder and secretary of Make a Difference, said: 'We are delighted that we will benefit from this donation. I'm sure that the generosity of the sellers and the buyers at this sale will make a dramatic difference to a tiny charity such as ours and greatly benefit local folk with mental health problems, as well as their loved ones.'

The sale will feature a range of items from shabby chic to antique, from Life Fitness gym equipment and a 4-berth caravan to £1 DVDs.

The sale will take place at the house, off Church Hill, Whitchurch, on Thursday, March 20 from 5.30pm and on Saturday, March 22 from 10am.

Then on May 10 at Tavistock Town Hall, an evening with Ann Widdecombe will be held to raise funds for the charity.

• Make a Difference at Trident House is open Monday from 10am to 3pm, Wednesday from noon to 4pm and Friday from 12.30pm and 4pm. For more information call 01822 613746.
