Devon 2 League North Tawton 3 Old Technicians 13 NORTH Tawton were optimistic of a win against the Plymouth side, to whom they had lost 10-14 in the away leg. For the first fifteen minutes the sides were very evenly matched. The first score came for Old Technicians when they were awarded a penalty on the North Tawton 5 metre line. Surprisingly they opted for the kick at goal, duly converted by fly half Ian Wright. Old Tecs had their chance with a break off the back of a loose maul. The three quarters split the Tawton defence and the centre was eyeing up which part of the try line to score over when a crashing tackle by Tawton centre Alfie May flattened him and saved an almost certain try. North Tawton resisted further pressure and late in the half were themselves on the offensive, capitalising on penalties by Old Tecs and camping on the visitors? 5 metre line. They were unable to convert pressure into points, however, and the half ended at 3-0 to Old Tecs. The home side lost concentration for a while and gave away too many penalties, allowing Old Tecs? Wright to slot another penalty kick. Shortly after the visitors broke the Tawton defensive line and set up a try for Old Tecs? centre Dan Doyle, who touched down under the posts. Wright converted to put his side 13-0 ahead. Within minutes North Tawton had their chance to get on the score sheet when an Old Tecs player was caught offside from a clearance kick and Tawton fly half Paul Fewings put over a good 35 metre penalty conversion. Although North Tawton?s scrum was dominating the set pieces and pushing the Old Tecs pack around the park, the team failed to make the most of the possession and their attacks lacked penetration. Another offside by Old Tecs gave Fewings a second chance for a penalty kick, this time from about 40 metres and this one failed to carry. Old Tecs messed up the 22 metre drop-out and Tawton had a good spell from the scrum when they really looked as if they wanted the win. Matt Weekes put in some excellent tackles, dragging down the opposition as they tried to break out. During the final phase of the match a last North Tawton replacement was made as Ryan King came on for Adam Davis, who had been hooking. The resulting reorganisation of the pack was not sufficient to affect the final outcome and despite a spirited last effort the final result remained at 13-3 to Old Technicians.
