THE second Westward Cross Country League took place in blustery, but surprisingly dry conditions at St Austell rugby club on Sunday. Following on from an excellent turnout at Redruth, Tavistock AC again fielded a strong team. First race was the Under13 Girls with Rebecca Windemer making a determined effort to work through the field to 22nd. She was backed up by Charlotte Herdman(26th) and Leone Isaacs (30th) to make the three scorers. In the Under 13 boys the Tavistock lone star was Nick Champion who fought hard to gain 9th place. Next off was the Under 15 girls ? Sarah Palmer in only her second race for the club finished an excellent 4th. This follows on from her 6th place at Redruth. Laura Aspen followed up Sarah to finish 15th. In the Under 15 boys Tom Lawson followed his 2nd place at Redruth with another top quality race finishing 2nd. Jake Rendle, battling back from injury finished 22nd. Unfortunately, Matt McNamara-Waddington had to drop out due to injury. The senior men?s had over 100 competitors. Jim Cole, still gaining experience, picked up 10th place. Richard Drage who prefers a less twisting course finished 14th. Chris Champion (18th), Adam Holland (28th) and Martin Exley, who is slowly recovering after nearly a year out with injury, came 35th. The senior ladies was a cracker for Tavistock.
