St Austell 10 Tavistock 20 TAVISTOCK soon found they would have to work hard for the spoils as from the kick off St Austell tested the Tavistock defence to the full. After absorbing this pressure Tavistock started to attack St Austell and one sweeping move should have resulted in a try for left wing Neil Evans. Unfortunately he could not take what would have been a scoring pass from full back Josh Sutton. However almost immediately after Tavistock did take the lead St Austell was caught in possession by flanker Will Brown and from the turnover Duncan Law grabbed the try. St Austell then hit back and after sustained pressure they were rewarded with three points with a penalty. As the half drew to a close Tavistock increased their lead in spectacular fashion. St Austell were penalised inside the Tavistock twenty two metre line and scrum half Lee Greatrex took a quick penalty and sprinted along the right touchline. As the St Austell defence closed in he found Duncan Law in support to carry on the move and then finally Lee accepted a return pass from Duncan to score a try. At the start of the second half Tavistock continued to press the St Austell line but some fine home defence together with a combination of poor finishing and wayward passing from Tavistock saw the score unchanged. On the hour as Tavistock took their foot off the gas St Austell got back on level terms with a try from Tait Richardson converted by Ian Venner. With the aid of fresh legs from player coach Steve Rush, Darren Cole and Mike Lyddon, replacing a dazed James Radford, Tavistock reasserted themselves. They then scored an excellent try via Neil Evans. Full back Josh Sutton added the conversion and a penalty goal. Saturday: Tavistock home at Sandy Park to Wadebridge. Kick off 3pm.
