Jewson South Western League

Tavistock 2

Saltash 3

THIS game did not come to light until the 20th minute when former Lambs player Andy Bowker gave Jason Powell the opportunity for a first-time shot at the near post.

The Lambs quickly responded in the 29th minute when Tony Cusack headed down for Chris Gott to fire home from 20 yards. It remained that score until half-time.

The home side had the better of the exchanges at the start of the second half and should have gone into the lead. Dean Tongue got clear and rounded the keeper but his shot lacked power and was cleared by a defender.

Poor defensive play allowed the Ashes to get the lead as substitute Paul Adcock rounded Andy Meeds to slot home. The Lambs were caught on the break five minutes from time as Mike Doel's through-ball found Adcock to shoot home. But they pulled one back on the stroke of full time when Chris Abbott met Craig Hodge's header with an acrobatic kick.

The Lambs gave their opponents the chances to score and were disappointed not to get a point.

THE Lambs were without Andy Parnowski, Mark Wall, Darren Babb and Chris Kiely for this final home game of the season. Manager Steve Metters drafted in Chris Abbott in defence with Rob Hawkins and Pete Gibson from the P & D side to sit on the bench.

The Blues took the lead after just 10 minutes when from a corner the ball was not cleared and Simon Dawe returned it into the danger area for Andy Sargeant to head home from close range.

Sargeant increased the lead five minutes after the break when he burst clear to slot past keeper Meeds.

The Lambs' best chance fell to Craig Hodge whose shot crashed against Pethick's crossbar before Sargeant grabbed his third with 15 minutes to go. Meeds saved his initial shot but was helpless with the follow-up.

A rather disappointing end to the final home game but the Lambs will finish in the top half of the table.
