THE impressive acoustics of Calstock Arts will be heard at their best on Sunday, September 11 when singer and harpist Siobhan Owen performs there.
Born in Wales but living in Australia since she was very young, Siobhan is already an experienced performer at the age of just 22.
Her first major solo performance was around 12 years ago to an audience of 2,500 people in the Adelaide Festival Theatre. Since then she has played in many parts of the world in small venues, large festivals, in theatre productions and on television.
Amongst her stage work was appearing in the lead role in Tristan & Yseult in France and Siberia where she performed as the voice
Yseult — a role she first took on in 2014.
The producer of the Franco-Celtic rock ballet, Alan Simon, discovered her on YouTube. She has gathered a large number of awards and achievements along the way.
Her Welsh and Australian allegiances were tested when she sang the Welsh national anthem on the pitch in front of thousands at a 2012 rugby match in Sydney between Wales and Australia; a game the Aussies won.
Siobhan possesses a fabulously pure voice. Initially receiving training as a classical performer, she is now also a well-respected singer of Celtic song. It’s been said that she marries ‘the two genres more cohesively and intimately than any artist has done before’ (Classical Crossover website).
Accompanying herself on a beautifully lyrical harp, her performances have a magical quality.
Siobhan is currently on a European tour, publicising her latest album, Entwined — a rich tapestry of heart-wrenching traditional Celtic ballads entwined with contemporary Celtic and classical crossover song; all woven together by Siobhan Owen’s exquisite, emotive voice. This promises to be a lovely relaxing way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
