FOURTEEN artists and craftspeople from Chagford, Murchington, Gidleigh and Throwleigh will be opening their workshops and studios to the public as part of the ?devonartworks? open studios event from September 8 to 23. This is an opportunity to see a wide range of work including colourful felts and quilts, ceramics ? finely thrown and bright domestic ? paintings in watercolour, oil and pastel, prints and handmade books, photography and film. Among the artists opening their workshops are Sheila Hadley and Bridget Thomasin at the Chagford Gallery, Jim Fortey`s at the Big Red Sofa, Jane Leitch from Gidleigh who paints landscapes, marine and animal portraits and photographer Chris Chapman. More than 500 Devon artists will be exhibiting in devonartworks, the largest open studios event ever to be held in the county. This is a flagship project of Devon Artist Network, an artists? membership organisation and follows on from the highly successful Nine Days of Art events that have been staged regularly since 2000. This new annual event will see studios across the county being opened simultaneously for the first time.
