A NEW exhibition by illustrator Carol Mullin recently opened at Dartmoor National Park Authority's High Moorland Visitor Centre in Princetown.
Carol's Dartmoor illustrations range from archaeological sites on Dartmoor to insects and lichens. They capture the subject matter in detail, providing a glimpse of Dartmoor life which often goes unnoticed.
Carol has always had an interest in wildlife. While raising her children she became aware of the power of illustration to inform and to give pleasure — which prompted her to return to university after her children grew up, to develop this specific skill.
Carol said: 'Only as my family left home did I begin to take my painting seriously. I had begun to study insects at an evening class at Exeter University, when an opportunity arose to go as an illustrator with a team of entomologists doing an insect survey of the Cook Islands. Utterly inspired by this experience, I went to Blackpool and the Fylde College (Lancaster University) for three years, where I obtained a degree in scientific and natural history illustration.'
The exhibition will run until January 26. The High Moorland Visitor Centre is open daily from 10.30am to 3.30pm. It will be closed over the festive period on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
