Tavistock Ladies 2

Mannamead 2nds 0

THIS penultimate league match of hockey opened with the ball being moved around with speed and precision.

The strong midfield play of Kath Collar, Rachel Thorne, Steph Mills and Susannah Boulle prevented the opposition from making any major attack.

Laura Armstrong had another good game on the wing and was quick to release the ball through some good crosses into the D.

Sue Cork gave some early calls which allowed Mills and Sue Gawman to cross the ball, but the opposition?s defence cleared it.

Numerous short corners were awarded to Tavistock and despite them being executed well, the team could not put the ball into the goal.

Emma Bowden played well and when linked with Gawman and Mills they had some lovely passes up on the right.

Fiona Dunn made some timely tackles and Babs Horton was a major threat to the opposition.

Tavistock knew they had to be extra vigilant in the opening minutes of the second half and this was exactly what was needed as Mannamead broke through the midfield and into the D a couple of times.

Goalkeeper Rebecca Creasy had shots covered and cleared the ball with accuracy. Susannah Harland made some dominant tackles and it seemed impossible for the opposition to get past herself and Thorne.

Laura Armstrong scored the first goal from a good cross from Bowden.

Sue Cork had some good shots at goal and they were backed up well from Hutton and Gawman. It was through the consistent watching of Hutton, who hit the ball back into the D after the keeper cleared it, that Armstrong scored her second of the match.

Player of the match: Sue Cork.
