Devon & Exeter League Premier Division Okehampton Argyle 1 Exmouth Town Res 4 THIS deserved victory for Exmouth not only pushed Argyle back to senior football, but also saw them leapfrog over Heavitree to snatch the league championship. Exmouth made their intentions clear from the start by shooting early whenever they were within sight of the goal. After a couple of good saves from Chris Dearing this policy paid off when, after 15 minutes, Paul Dowling slammed in a right wing cross to put the visitors one up. Argyle?s best chances came about ten minutes later, when first a lob from Rob Sandercock had the keeper at full stretch to save and then a goal from Steve Williams was disallowed for handball while bringing the ball under control. Further pressure from Exmouth proved to be decisive, as the clock ticked towards half-time, a square ball from Dowling gave Danny Williams an easy chance to score Exmouth?s second. Argyle put a little pressure on Exmouth early in the second half, but could not find that vital finishing touch. With defenders pushing up to support the forwards a big gap was left at the rear, which Exmouth exploited to put the visitors 3-0 ahead. The game was wrapped up when Exmouth scored their fourth goal 15 minutes from time. Almost from the restart Steve Kinsey did score a consolation goal for Argyle, but far too late for the home side to salvage anything except a bit of pride.
