Devon FA Women's League
Okehampton Argyle Ladies 3
Rolle Rockets 1
IN front of a large and vocal crowd Okehampton won their second league game of the season to move them six points clear of the bottom of the league.
With a new keeper in the line-up and fielding a full strength side Okehampton's expectations were high having already beaten Rolle two weeks ago at Exmouth.
It took Okehampton a while to get going against a determined Rolle. But their nerves settled when Okehampton's keeper made a good save. Soon after, a great move down the left wing by Michelle Vaughan led to the ball finding its way to Lisa White whose shot gave Rolle's keeper little chance as the ball looped over her head. The Okehampton back four of Gina Burdus, Kate Shannon, Hayley Vincent and Ceri Chapman were as solid as ever.
Okehampton went in at half-time 1-0 up but the game was still evenly balanced.
Allana Partidge came on as a substitute and played her part on the right wing coming close with one effort and getting behind the Rolle defence.
On the hour Rolle Rockets equalised from the penalty spot with the keeper guessing the right way but the shot was agonisingly out of reach.
Straight from the kick off the front pairing of Lisa White and Tanya Casley ripped through the heart of the Rolle team and Tanya scored from just outside the area.
Rolle pushed forward but the Okehampton midfield of Rewie, Lynda Cann, Jessica Burdus and Michelle Vaughan were more than equal to the task.
In the last minute, Tanya put the result beyond question as she slid in to score her second of the game.
Okehampton deserved this win for the way they have started to play: they rarely argue with the referee, they just play football the way it should be.
The next league fixture is away to Exeter Saints on Sunday February 20.
The team will be selected from: Karen Clark, Ceri Chapman, Kate Shannon, Hayley Vincent, Charlie Bird, Lynda Cann, Sara Rew, Michelle Vaughan, Sarah Campbell, Tanya Casley, Lisa White, Nicky Cummings, Allana Partridge.
All players will be contacted as to availability.
