POLICE in Tavistock are appealing for witnesses after a driver failed to stop after hitting another car on a main road into the town. Tavistock resident Dave Anning said his wife was strapping one of their children into a car seat when the incident occurred in Plymouth Road, outside the Sunningdale Nursery, at about 5.30pm on Tuesday week. A car drove by and caught the rear driver?s side door, damaging it badly. Mr Anning said: ?They hit it hard enough to crumple it completely, and just drove off. We think it was a small Renault ? it will have lost one mirror and will definitely have some other damage. ?If the door had been open another six inches the car would have taken the door off completely. I can?t believe they didn?t stop, there was glass 50 yards up the road ?one lady came up to us and said she heard the bang from 100 yards away.?
