A STREAK of sporting success at South Tawton Primary continued recently after the school team won an athletics competition at Okehampton College.
The 12-member team made up of Year 5 and 6 pupils won the Okehampton area indoor athletics competition, held at the college. It is the third year in a row that the school has won the contest, competing against other primary schools in a variety of athletic contests, including the long jump and running races.
The team claimed a top three spot in every event, and won the overall competition with a large points total.
Teacher Nikki Hutchings said: 'The team has done brilliantly again this year, and as a school we are very proud of them. It is great to see them doing so well. I am particularly proud of our team captains, who did everything that was asked of them. Two of our Year 5 pupils did particularly well, winning the long jump and taking second in the speed bounce event. They have done brilliantly, and to win three years in a row is great.'
The victory is the latest in a line of sports successes for the school, with their tag rugby team recently reaching the regional finals to be played at Sandy Park. The South Tawton athletics team must now wait to see if their team will be selected to compete in the Devon finals.
