The annual  Bottle Trot competitions at Tavistock Golf Club are sure signs that Christmas is not far away.

The Tavistock Ladies played theirs in, for once, reasonable weather conditions.

With 30 bottles of wine as prizes the competition was very well supported.

The winning trio with 72 points were Pat Pope, Wendy George and Julie Harding; 2,  Shirley Trevena, Barbara Ham and Pat Taylor with 71 pts; 3, Carloyn Crawford, Rosemary Rea and Wendy Anglis with 66 pts .

The weather reverted back to strong winds and showers for the Ladies' Monthly Stableford resulting in reductions only.  In division one: 1, Kerry Baker, 36pts; 2, Roma McMahon, 34pts, 3, Penny Deakin 31pts.  Division two: 1, Lynn Swift, 31 pts on countback from Ann Martyn; 3, Gloria Westhead, 29pts.  Division three: 1. Wendy George, 27pts; 2, Gail Reed 23pts; 3, Val Facey, 21pts.

Always played in a very competitive spirit, 72 men participated in the annual Club Captain v Secretary match.

The loser's trophy of a wooden spoon has been competed for since 1982 and for many years was held by the Captain's team.  This all changed in 1999 when the captain finally relinquished it!

This year's match, a Shotgun Start for a four ball better ball matchplay, was no exception, much to the delight of captain Tim Hawkins. His team won 10 and a half to 7 and a half so club secretary, Jonathan Coe, retains the wooden spoon for yet another year!

The match was followed by a superb dinner provided the the club's chef Nick Shopland and his assistant Lucy Creber.

In the men's midweek Stableford results were close in both divisions.  In division one Michael White had 41pts with Steve Thackham in second place with 39 pts on countback from Graham Ruth.

In division two first was Simon Bridgewater with 39 pts, Frank Hughes had 37 pts on countback from Gareth George.

In division one of the Monthly Medal Nathan Rivers had nett 66; 2, Mike Beveridge nett 69; 3, David Young, nett 70.  Divison two: 1, Robin Rivers, nett 66; 2, Mike Burbidge, nett 68; 3, Dave Manning, nett 70.  Division three: Gary Wiliams, nett 69; 2, Tim Lewis, nett 70, on countback from Robert Beveridge

In the juniors monthly Stableford first was Alex Carter with 39 pts; 2, Sam Brockington, 36 pts; 3, Will Stenhouse with 21 pts.
