A WEEKEND of celebrations for RAF Harrowbeer's 70th Anniversary next month will kick off with a wartime style dinner-dance.

The 1940s themed event will take place at the Moorland Links Hotel on Friday August 12, to include a three course meal and dancing to music from the 1940s played by Dave Hankin and his band. Uniforms and dresses from the era will be encouraged to create real wartime spirit. Special guest for the evening will be Dr Stefan Petrusewicz, vice chairman of the Anglo Polish Society Bristol and the South West representing the Polish airmen of 302 (City of Poznan) Squadron based at Harrowbeer.

Tickets for the dinner-dance cost £27.50.

Over the weekend of August 13 and 14, the anniversary community event is being staged to commemorate the opening of the former RAF airfield and the history of its vital role during world war two.
