A CHRISTMAS card competition held by the mayor of Tavistock received more than 150 entrants from various primary schools in the local area.

Mayor and Mayoress of Tavistock Councillor Harry Smith and Mary Smith looked over the entries, deliberating on who the winner would be.

Cllr Smith said: 'It was a tough decision for Mary and me, we sat down and looked through the images submitted to us without looking at the names or ages on the back and placed them into piles.

'We eventually reduced it down to but a handful of pictures and finally decided on an overall winner and three runners up.'

Certificates were presented to all those who won and a pack of the printed cards along with a WHSmith voucher was given to the winner of the competition.

The children were kept unaware of their success until their assembly on Monday morning.
