FOLLOWING on from the success of the Lych Way Walk arranged by the Dartmoor Rescue Group in September, another opportunity is being arranged to enjoy an organised walk on the moors shortly.

The 12 Across and 2 Down walk will take place on February 23 next year, starting at Venford Reservoir car park, grid reference 685 712, at 9am.

Sue Britton, secretary of the Plymouth section of the DRG, said: ?This walk gives the participants the opportunity to visit 12 ancient and two modern crosses, whilst walking part of the ancient tract known as the Maltern Way.

?We will be restricting the numbers this year to comply with Dartmoor National Park?s request, and would advise walkers to book early.?

The ancient monks? route follows the only East-West trans-moor way which has been marked by crosses and traverses the narrowest part of Dartmoor as the crows flies.

The ten-mile walk will finish at the Plume of Feathers pub in Princetown.

The group held a very successful skills weekend last month which was well over-subscribed and due to the success of the event, a further course will be held in March next year.

Sue said: ?This two-day course is aimed at all levels of experience in navigation, map work, first aid and includes two walks, one of which will be after dark.

?The course can be attended on a daily basis or accommodation can be provided if required.?

The course and bunk house accommodation for the course on March 22/23 costs £30 ? £25 without accommodation.

Sue advised anyone wishing to attend the course to book well in advance. Anyone interested in both or either event should call 01752 518669 or e-mail [email protected]">[email protected]
