ONCE it was a freshly baked very hot cross bun. Now it is a very rock-hard ancient hot cross bun.
This venerable piece of 172-year-old cooking has finally come to rest in Tavistock courtesy of Bill Foster, owner of Bill the Baker in Pym Street.
Bill bought the bun for £155 when it was put up for auction at an antique s fair in Birmingham.
'I don't know why I did it, it was a whim really — I thought it might get knocked around a bit so I thought I would give it a good home,' he said.
Now well past its sell-by date the bun has fast become a talking point in Bill's shop.
Pictured with Bill are staff Brenda Jones and Faith Dingle with the famous bun — and a mouthwatering current model that would seem unlikely to be around long enough to suffer the ageing process of 172 years.
