A TREAT is in store for lovers of poetry tomorrow (Friday), when The Poetry Society, in partnership with Peterloo Poets, presents a reading by U A Fanthorpe in Calstock.
Born in Kent in 1929, U A Fanthorpe is one of England's best, most popular and prolific poets, renowned for her entertaining and moving readings.
Awarded the CBE for services to literature in 2001, she has this year been presented with the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
She has been described as 'a national treasure' by Liz Lochhead in the Poetry Book Society Bulletin, while Michael Foot has described her work as 'one of the delights of the age'.
The poetry reading takes place at The Old Chapel in Sand Lane, Calstock, and begins at 7.30pm.
