THE Wharf in Tavistock plays host to a trio of musicians who will delight enthusiasts of chamber music this month.
The Haydn Lute Trio was formed to explore the large body of 18th century chamber music written for lute and stringed instruments.
The trio consists of David Parsons, who plays Baroque lute and the theorbo, Fransisco Del Amo on classical cello and Marianna Szucs, who plays classical violin and viola.
This combination of talented musicians makes the most of the high quality works created by Haydn?s contemporaries such as Kohaut and Hagen, in addition to Haydn?s own, little-known masterpieces.
In contrast to these classical pieces, the Haydn Lute Trio?s repertoire includes virtuoso violin performances from Handel, Veracini and others, with the theorbo providing basso continuo.
David Parsons is one of the few performers able to successfully combine both Renaissance and Baroque lutes or the 19th century guitar in recital and has made broadcast performances both here and abroad.
In September 2002, the Haydn Lute Trio performanced as part of the Southbank Early Music Weekend.
The Trio appear at The Wharf on Friday April 23 at 8pm. tickets £6.50 ?call the box office on 01822 611166.
