TIDY Tavi’s fourth birthday celebration last Saturday started with an official cake cutting ceremony by West Devon mayor Cllr David Cloke.
Before setting out on their litterpicking rounds, Tidy Tavi volunteers enjoyed coffee and cake donated by local businesses.
The Tidy Tavi co-ordinators, Steve Hipsey and Cllr Jeff Moody, expressed thanks to the hardworking volunteers who, over the past four years, have managed to collect over 1,600 bags of dropped litter around Tavistock.
Cllr Jeff Moody said, ‘Four years is an amazing achievement, but we couldn’t have done it without the valuable support from the Tavistock community, who were willing to give up their time.
‘My grateful thanks to everyone involved and may it go from strength to strength.’
After the birthday party, teams set out for their monthly litterpick around Tavistock.
Tavistock Tesco visitors Ashley Bryant, personnel manager and Heather Mitchell, community champion, joined Steve Hipsey’s team who targeted Anderton Lane layby, while Cllr David Cloke joined Jeff Moody’s team which concentrated on the town centre streets.
The teams collected around 15 bags of rubbish, and the town centre team members commented on the increase in the problem of dropped cigarette butts around Tavistock.
Tidy Tavi meets at the Meadowlands pool at 10am on the first Saturday of each month.
The next litterpick is on Saturday, November 7.
