FROM North Carolina to Whitchurch ? an American Gospel Choir will be performing in St Andrew?s Church on June 12 as part of a European tour. The visit by the United Voices of Praise, who will also be singing at the 9am assembly at Kelly College Prep School on June 13, is a result of a Tavistock couple?s 18 months of living and working in the American state where they discovered the choir singing in a local church. While working at the Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, Mark and Louise Bennett were invited to sing with the choir which was formed in 1995 and regularly performs at festivals, churches and other venues, including prisons. The UK date was added to the planned programme after a return visit by the Bennetts last year. ?The choir?s songs are full of deep spirituality but also full of life and we are anticipating a concert that St Andrew?s will never forget,? said Mr Bennett. There is no entry charge to the concert, which begins at 5pm, but a freewill offering will be collected.
