THIS year?s Tavy Town Relays, organised by Tavistock Athletic Club, and being held on Thursday July 15, have a new sponsor.
Local company Ambrosia has kindly stepped in with a donation which will cover all of the administration costs incurred in organising this popular relay event held in the Meadows. This means that the club will be able to make an even bigger contribution to the Lions? charity collection in Carnival week.
The relays and fun run start at 6.30pm from Meadowlands Swimming Pool, on the footpath by the river. The course is along the riverbank to Westbridge then back along the other side of the Tavy, through Bensons Meadow, across Abbey Bridge and back to the beginning ? about 1.1 miles. Entrants should get there by 6.15pm if possible.
There are several categories ? senior men, senior women, vet men and vet women in the athletic/running club category. There are also categories for other sporting clubs and non-sporting organisations as well as boys and girls teams in three age groups (under 16, 14 and 12).
The club are looking for as many teams as possible to come forward for this friendly and worthy event. Entry forms and more information can be obtained from the website or from Keith Bowles on 01822 613607.
Last weekend saw Tavistock club runners in two road race events. On Friday three teams represented the club in the Erme Valley Relays. Each team comprised 4 runners, each covering the 2.5 mile challenging up and down course. The men?s senior team of Charlie Lloyd, Adam Tofield, Adam Holland and Martin Exley finished in a magnificent 3rd position. The men?s ?B? team, Pete Bazley, Andy Smith, Tony Symons and Allan Herdman came in 13th with the ladies? team finishing 28th. Emma White, Kate Glanville, Angela Sykes and Fiona Dunn all ran well and were 4th in the senior ladies? category.
On Sunday the Launceston Half Marathon, reputed to be one of the toughest in the region, saw Adam Holland make his debut at this distance. He finished in 11th position in a time of 1:23:35 whilst Pete Bazley came home in 55th clocking 1:35:45.
