I HAVE just been reading a report in the Okehampton Times (January 21) regarding the new Okehampton Hospital. Apparently, there is a threat to the future of the maternity service at the hospital. Further on it mentions concerns regarding the lack of out of hours GPs, stating that the nearest call centre is Tiverton. Now excuse me if I appear a ?bit thick?, but didn?t this hospital cost millions of pounds? Some of which was raised by local people? Am I asking too much for a hospital costing that kind of money to give the town what is expected? I know I can get my ears checked at the hospital and thank you for that, it saves me going all the way to Exeter. But saying this, I got the same service at the old Castle Hospital. Am I asking too much to find a doctor in a hospital at night? Forgive me if this sounds a little bit ?laid back? but I don?t mind if a doctor working nights gets time to put his head down for a kip. Just the fact that there is a ?doctor in the house? at night might help me and a few others sleep better in our own beds. Then again perhaps I?m just being silly! After all, we are only talking about a New Hospital.
