THE semi-finals of the Plumb Centre South West Winter Foursomes competition were played at Yelverton Golf Club.
Wayne Tulley (Elfordleigh) and Colin Gentry(Tavistock) struggled to find their form, and lost 6 and 5 to Paul Isaac and to Peter Franklin. In the second semi-final another Yelverton pair, George Frude and Chris Gunn, played the last surviving professional and the last lady competitor – David and Margaret Jeffs. Honours were more even on the back nine but Frude and Gunn emerged the winners 4 and 3. These results set up an all-Yelverton final, for the first time in 22 years.
In the Plate semi-finals James Holt and Anthony Bradley played well to defeat James Warwick and Simon Knapman (Churston) 4 and 2. In the other semi, Alan Johnston and Alan Lock (Holsworthy) had a walk-over over when David Hyslop and Tom Belton(Yelverton) had to withdraw.
The final will be played over 36 holes on Sunday, March 8. Third and fourth place, and fifth to eighth place finals, and the finals of the Plate competition will be also played in the afternoon. The prizes will be presented by the sponsor, John May of The Plumb Centre, Plymouth.
Start times are available on the Yelverton web-site yelvertongc.co.uk.
