North/Okes U12s 7

Oxford U12s 7

NORTH/Okes were invited to play this fixture at Launceston on behalf of the home side who found themselves double booked - and what a great game it turned out to be.

Playing down the slope and with the wind, North/Okes started well with Tom Dean and Merick Kirby having good games in the forwards and Kevin Dennis and Tom Gill making good use of the ball in the three quarters.

But despite this pressure they were unable to breach the strong Oxford defence. Oxford lost one of their players just before half-time with a bad cut to his eye.

The second half saw Oxford change the complete team but this unsettled them and from a quickly taken penalty by James Ewen, Andrew North crashed his way to within two metres of the line. He set it back for his forwards to ruck back the ball for Robert Steptoe to pick up at the base and plough his way over to score. Conversion by North.

Oxford came back hard and from a rare defensive mistake score a well deserved try and conversion.

Both teams kept up the attacking rugby with a notable try-saving tackle by Will Hawkins covering the wing, but the score remained at 7-7, which was a fair reflection on the game.

No training Friday, Saturday meet at clubs 10.15am to play a touring side at Okehampton for the last game of the season.
