WEST Devon residents are being urged to practice their pushing, brush up their drinking and get ready to enter the 30th Annual Sticklepath Pram Race.

This year's race will take place on Sunday, October 5 and teams wishing to enter are being urged to begin their preparations and start raising sponsorship.

Anne Verner Jeffreys, chairman of Sticklepath Sports Club, said: 'If you can't raise a team to have a crazy afternoon of fun then come and cheer them on round the course and chuck a few coppers in the collecting bucket.'

The pram race is run by Sticklepath Sports Club with all proceeds being split between local charities.

Last year's race raised £900 for South Tawton Primary School to help kick start a vegetable garden project and provide playground globe markings.

The race is run across a course of approximately three and half miles and the pubs en route include Oxenham Arms in South Zeal, Kings Arms in South Zeal, The Seven Stars in South Tawton, The Taw River Inn in Sticklepath and The Devonshire Inn in Sticklepath.

An entrance fee of £25 per team is payable on registration unless proof of sponsorship for more than this amount is produced.

Teams must consist of five members aged 18 or over and one team member must remain in the pram at all times while travelling between pubs. Every team member must consume at least one drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic, at each pub.

The event will kick off at noon in Reddaways Yard at Zeal Head with the supporting St Austell Brewery Vintage Van as the start 'pub'.

Competing teams must assemble at the start by 11.15am. For further details please contact the Devonshire Inn on 01837 840626.
