ALL the excitement of race day comes to West Devon in the next few weeks, when top local horses and riders compete in the annual point to point meetings at Kilworthy and Cherrybrook.

The meetings are arranged by Lamerton and Spooners and West Dartmoor Hunts. In addition to the races themselves, there are trade stands, licensed bars and refreshments throughout the day.

Michael Bickell, chairman of Lamerton Hunt, said: ?The sport of point to point racing is enjoying increased popularity and the season boasts over 200 fixtures.

?Of these race meetings, 199 are organised by local hunts and every horse has been qualified out in the hunting field.

?Point to point racing is also a breeding ground for future champions in national hunt racing, with many top jockeys and horses starting their careers on their local point to point course.?

Mr Bickell said the races make for a great day out for family ? well-behaved dogs are welcome, provided they are on leads.

Kilworthy Point to Point takes place on Saturday March 20 ? Cherrybrook on Saturday April 3. Both locations will be well signposted, just north of Tavistock off the Okehampton road.

Racing starts at 12.30pm.
