A VARIETY of events and displays will be on show at this year's Princetown Carnival on Saturday, August 2. The carnival will start at noon on the old sports field near the Youth Pavilion with the Carnival Queen parading through the village to begin the day, which will finish with a procession through the village at 5pm. There will be a variety of events along with stalls and competitions for all to enter. These include the family dog show, welly wanging, singing by the Mayflower Singers, dancing by the local dance school and Majorettes, and the Princetown tug of war team. A local Samba band will be giving a display as well as leading the procession. Other attractions include a bouncy castle, tombola stall, plate smashing, and a coconut shy. All proceeds from the day will go to the Princetown Community Fund. In the evening there will be a marquee on the sports field for a barn dance starting at 7pm until late, with band 'Home Brew'. The bar will be open all night with a break between 8pm until 9pm for a hog roast. For the children there will be several competitions which will require early planning before the event. The best monster made from vegetables, the best miniature garden on a plate and the best collage under the carnival's theme of 'Film Festival' (maximum size A3). Entries to the three competitions need to be in the marquee by 10.30am for judging. Age groups are under 8, 8 to 12 and 12 to 16 and cost £1 per entry.
