FESTIVE cheer comes to Okehampton tonight with the annual Edwardian Evening getting everyone in the spirit of Christmas.

Shops will be staying open until 9pm and there will be plenty of entertainment and attractions to keep the whole family interested.

West Devon Borough Council is offering free parking in its car parks from 4pm.

Children can meet Santa in his Grotto at the Museum of Dartmoor Life after 6.30pm when he arrives in style from Simmons Park in a grand carriage pulled by horses.

Watch out for the eight-foot high snow queen, morris dancers and the barrel organ, all adding to that unique Christmas atmosphere beneath another wonderful display of festive lighting for which has won Okehampton praise from near and far.

Chestnuts will be roasting and a hog roast and barbecue will keep your stamina up throughout the evening outside Martins the Butchers.

There will also be carol singing in Red Lion Yard accompanied by the Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, a family treasure hunt, forms for which are on Page 16 of today?s Okehampton Times, a best dressed shopkeeper competition and heaps more attractions. The fun begins as darkness falls.
