TAVISTOCK Steam Fair will roll into action at a different venue this year. After 15 years in the town centre, the fair is moving to the Wharf and Bedford car park, the larger area allowing the accommodation of more exhibits and means the town centre roads can remain open. The usual attractions on Sunday, June 4 will be in Bedford car park, including steam engines both full size and miniature, classic and vintage cars, commercials and buses, barn engines and vintage tractors. The Collection of Collections will be in the Wharf auditorium and the stage area will be transformed into a garden railway, the floor being an Aladdin?s cave of treasures. The Frank Roffey Tavistock tractor trail will be starting and finishing at the steam fair, with between 20 and 30 restored tractors leaving at 11am and returning at 2pm, having visited Abbotsfield Nursing Home, Kelly College and the Halfway House at Grenofen. Trailer rides behind steam engines will be on offer and the Sentinel steam lorry will be present to give a contrast to the sedate pace of Stumbles the town steam-roller. A miniature steam train will also be giving rides, as will some children?s roundabouts. Two fairground organs will play old and new melodies. Bedford car park will be closed from midnight on Saturday, June 3 to 8pm on Sunday. Riverside, Abbey Rise and the Guildhall car parks will be open as usual. Vehicular access to Bedford car park will be restricted to exhibitors only. The steam fair opens at 11am, with the official opening by the West Devon Borough Mayor at 2pm.
