AT the halfway point in the game between Belstone Colts and tourists Ashtead Colts on Monday, Tom Marshall, long time supporter of Belstone cricket, cut the ribbon to open the new all-weather practice wicket and netting at Rew Meadow.

This state of the art facility has been acquired through an Awards For All Lottery Grant and local fundraising, and should help to further raise the standard of the more than 30 youngsters involved with the Colts.

At the same time, Ron Bray cut another ribbon to open a new shed for Colts' cricket equipment, which was obtained using a grant from the Sticklepath and Belstone School Trust.

After these formalities, Ashtead completed a 50-run victory over the home side, before the cricketers and supporters enjoyed a barbecue run by Phyll Cowley, Pippa Thompson and helpers.

Fundraising continues at the Belstone ground this Saturday, July 28, with a car boot sale and refreshments, which begins at 10am.
