THE ladies of Yelverton Golf Club held their annual meeting on Sunday
week.
The new officers of the committee were elected: Captain, Marie Watson; vice-captain, Ray Bovingdon; secretary, Mary Geen; handicap secretary Annette Sweeney; competition secretary, Di Friend. Alison Measelle was elected onto the committee.
Jean James, the retiring captain, was thanked for all her work in 2003, and a special vote of thanks was given to Dawn Bolt who continues to be the ball monitor.
Marie Watson?s ?drive in? on November 27 was a very successful light hearted, 13-hole competition. Shirley Cook won with 32 points, runner up was Chris Longden also with 32 points and third was Julie Percy with 31 points. Caroline Theyer won a prize for successfully guessing where Marie?s drive would land on the first hole.
On November 13 a medal competition was played. Laura Eastwood won the silver division with a magnificent gross 69 (standard scratch 73), which is a new course record; runner -up was Belinda McSherry with a net 79. Aine Binchy won the bronze division with a net 80 and runner up was Diane Reardon with a net 83.
On November 20 a stableford competition was played. Barbara Perriton won the silver division with 37 points and runner up was Dawn Bolt with 36 points. Aine Binchy won the bronze division with 38 points and runner-up was Georgie Evans with 27 points.
Caroline Theyer won the King Phillips Cup knock out competition and Marie Watson was runner-up.
Weather permitting the next few months will see lots of fun competitions and plans are developing for a feast of golf in 2004, the club centenary year.
