IT was all change at the recycling centre on Crowndale Road, Tavistock, this week when work began to swap sites with the adjacent waste transfer station. The change is being made to improve the service offered to householders, reduce site congestion and minimise traffic queuing. Under-used space in the waste transfer area will be put to better use. The extra space will allow the layout of the recycling centre to be revised to make it easier and quicker for visitors. There will be a circular traffic flow system and more space for householders to manoeuvre and offload waste and recyclables. This will reduce site congestion and allow the site to be operated more efficiently. The extra space and faster throughput will reduce the queues that sometimes form on the road. The work started on Monday and will be completed by the end of May. It will include the construction of a new waste transfer building and a weighbridge and alterations to the site entrance. Although the recycling centre will remain open to the public as normal, seven days a week, only limited recycling facilities will be available while the work is carried out. Householders should call the recycling centre information line on 01392 382846 if they have any queries regarding the site.
