IT'S full steam ahead in Okehampton as a series of new fares have been announced for this summer's Sunday Rover trains. In partnership with Devon County Council, train company First Great Western has introduced new 'Cheap Day Return' fares between Okehampton and most Devon stations on the summer Sunday Rover service. A cheap day return from Okehampton to Exeter Central is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children aged between 5 and 15. To travel from Okehampton to either Dawlish, Exmouth, Teignmouth or Barnstaple will cost £6 for adults and £3 for children, while Okehampton to Torquay or Paignton is £7.50 for adults and £3.75 for children. This is the first summer these fares have been available and they come as a welcome tonic to railway services in Okehampton after Dartmoor Railway was forced to close the large majority of its operations earlier in the year. In another first for the Okehampton Sunday trains, railcard holders will now be able to benefit from travel discounts if they use the line. Groupsave tickets, which allow up to four people to travel for the price of two adult cheap day returns, are now also available. The cheap day return fares are valid on any Sunday train to and from Okehampton with tickets being sold on the train. The trains will also serve Sampford Courtenay station where the same fares will also be available. All these fares are in addition to the Dartmoor Sunday Rover which allows a day's unlimited travel on both the Okehampton trains and the Gunnislake-Plymouth Tamar Valley Line, including a network of bus services over Dartmoor. Free parking is available at Okehampton Station and the trains will run every Sunday until September 21. Dartmoor Sunday Rover leaflets are available from Okehampton Tourist Information Centre while information about the times of trains and the fares is available from http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk">www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk or by calling National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950.
