IN the second year of the Bill Bower Memorial Cup at Hurdwick Golf Club Alena Wardle produced an outstanding round to ensure that a lady member quickly recorded her name on the trophy — Bill would have been delighted!

Alena had a medal score of 59 net to give by far the best result of the day. Sally Arscott was second with 72 and Sue Wilson third with 73.

In the men's division one, Tim Gale led the field with a net 65. Alan Hill took second place on back nine with a 71 and Richard Berry also shot a 71 to take third place on back six countback.

Division two leader was George Whitfield with 76, second was Chris Wardle with 77 and John Burrough was in third spot with 78.

The only 'two' of the day came from Ernie Trimble who won the balls sweep.

In the midweek medal, Tony Pearson won division one with a net 71, Ernie Trimble was second with 72 and Tim Gale was in third place with 72.

Club captain Rodney Browne shot the best score of the day with a net 70 to win division two. Ray Truscott was close behind in second place with 71 and Derek Blackmore was in third spot with a 78.

John Rea and John Chapman shared the 'twos' sweep.

The ladies are reaching the end of a very successful season with an unbeaten record at home and having lost just one of their away matches. Brenda Truscott and Shirley Portis, together with Sally Arscott and Josie Whitfield, have reached the finals of the Express and Echo foursomes and Josie Whitfield is playing at Dawlish Warren in the finals of the Warren Crocus singles medal.

The ladies' success does not stop on the golf course. Two members, Linda Smith and Sharon Parnall, together with partner Sheila Phillips, have won the women's All-England Bowls Triples. They will now represent England in the British Isles Championships in Jersey in June 2004.
