THE eyes of the sporting world have been on Glasgow over the last few weeks for the Commonwealth Games – and a sports masseuse based just outside Okehampton played her part as a member of the games medical team. Ali Sizmur, who is based at Estrayer Park Yard, was one of the elite few to have been selected to administer therapy at the 2014 games, having been one of 10,000 applicants to the role. She administered sports massage therapy to athletes of all nationalities at the games who required her specialist treatment. Throughout the games she was working at Hampden Park, where the track and field events were held. Ali said the games were an amazing, absolutely incredible experience which she would never forget. 'It is hard to say which moment was the one which will stay with me. 'The people, the atmosphere, the team I worked with and most importantly the athletes, were all great to work with and was incredible to be part of that team. 'My favourite sporting moment was being in the stadium for the 100 metre final when England's Adam Gemili took the silver medal. Just before this, the para-athlete Libby Clegg from Scotland had her medal ceremony, and Flower of Scotland rang out around Hampden Park. 'Even from an English perspective, that was special.' Ali has been working as a sports massage therapist since 2006, and during this time she has worked with a wide variety of clients, from Olympic and professional athletes to people with general aches and pains. Britain's number one ladies' pistol shooter Georgina Geikie is among those who has been treated by Ali. The multi-talented masseuse is also qualified as an equine sports massage therapist having completed an internationally renowned ITEC course. The games proved a fantastic professional experience for Ali. She said: 'On a professional level, it was amazing to be selected to go to the games. It has meant I have gained invaluable experience of working at elite international level, learning from other members of the medical team and working with athletes at the top of their game. 'It was especially nice to have athletes ask to see me to continue the continuity of their treatment on the build up to their event.  'On a personal level I feel I have been on a working holiday, the people I have met and the experience I have had has been wonderful and I'd do it again tomorrow if I could.'
