A SPORTS masseuse based just outside Okehampton has been selected to be part of the medical team at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Ali Sizmur, who is based at Estrayer Park Yard just outside the town, is one of the elite few to have been selected to administer therapy at the 2014 games, having been one of 10,000 applicants for the role.
This year's games are being held in Glasgow. Ali will be administering sports massage therapy to athletes of all nationalities at the games who require her specialist treatment. Throughout the games she will be working at Hampden Park, where the track and field events will be held.
Ali has been working as a sports massage therapist since 2006 and during this time she has worked with a wide variety of clients, from Olympic and professional athletes to people with general aches and pains.
Britain's number one ladies pistol shooter Georgina Geikie is among those who has been treated by Ali.
The multi-talented masseuse is also qualified as an equine sports massage therapist having completed an internationally renowned ITEC course. She has worked with horses at a variety of levels from elite 4* eventers to pony club and riding club all rounders.
'I started the application process at the end of 2012,' said Ali. 'My final interview was in June 2013.
'They had 10,000 applicants and interviewed 4,000, so I didn't actually hear I was selected until December. I am very excited about going as I haven't been involved in an event of this scale before. I think it will be an amazing experience.
'My degree is in sports and exercise science and psychology and I took extra modules in my final year to enable me to treat them as a therapist. I love my job and get to work with a very diverse range of people.'
The 2014 Commonwealth Games, officially the XX Commonwealth Games, will be held in Glasgow over eleven days of competition from July 23 to August 3.
