Tavistock Seconds 4 Bodmin 2 BOTH hockey teams came into this game needing a win to stay contenders in the league — when Tavistock played Bodmin earlier this season they suffered a disappointing defeat. Tavistock started with a fluent attitude and some great opportunities were created against a well motivated Bodmin side. Alford scored an elaborate goal from the top of the D, sneaking one past the keeper's left foot, and then again with a superb run from the 25-yard line to flick one fast the keeper, leaving Tavistock 2-0 up after 17 and a half minutes. At this point their motivation seemed to slip but superb challenges by Rodda, George and Costello in defence and some magical link-up play by Phil Edwards in the centre of the pitch. In the second half Bodmin came back strongly and scored to make it 2-1. Tavistock's James Hawken made a superb run and put one past the keeper at close range. Bodmin came back strongly, forcing good saves from Martin Osborne but finally got their second goal to bring the scores back to 3-2. This gave Tavistock the motivation to score another. Again, Hawken hit the backboard from a rebound off a short corner to finish the game for Tavistock. Man of the match: James Alford.
